Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Relief
O.S.C.A.R. Nederland
Multi-ethnic foundation for patients and carriers of Sickle cell anemia and thalassemia
Mrs. Elmas Citak, president
Dear foundation members or prospective members of O.S.C.A.R. Nederland
O.S.C.A.R. is a sister foundation of the international organization by the same name which is active in the U.K. and in the Caribbean.
O.S.C.A.R. Nederland has, however, its own character because it is a multi-ethnic and thus a multicultural foundation which dedicates its services to the multicultural society of The Netherlands. To the patients with sickle cell anemia and beta-thalassemia, but also to the 140,000 healthy carriers mainly of recent Mediterranean, Asian, or African origin who lives in the Netherlands.
O.S.C.A.R. aims to fight against the lack of attention by the Dutch Healthcare for these diseases which cannot be cured yet but which can be treated properly, and which could easily be prevented.
O.S.C.A.R. Nederland is engaged in these plans together with the Dutch organization of Collaborating Patients and Parents, which in Dutch is called “Vereniging van Samenwerkende Ouders en Patienten Organisatie” (VSOP). Click here for the VSOP page. If you are interested in O.S.C.A.R. because you are a patient, a healthy carrier or just a member of the multicultural Dutch society who wants to be informed about the risk of being a carrier, you may become a member and receive our information booklet “OSCAR NIEUWS”.
With this publication we try to keep the O.S.C.A.R. members informed about the recent developments concerning their diseases and on the prevention possibilities. Verbal information can also be obtained at the telephone numbers or email addresses given in these pages.
If you wish to become a member and to contribute to our initiative you may transfer €25 (or more if you wish to be more generous) per year on NL04 RABO 0141 4342 28 t.n.v. OSCAR Nederland.
Thank you in advance for your attention and generosity!
